5 memorable stages through the most authentic Galicia
The baptism stage. You cross the Miño River on Portomarín's long bridge, leaving Sarria behind amid oak and chestnut forests. You pass the monastery of Barbadelo, one of the most beautiful on the Camino. You arrive at the charming village of Portomarín with its stone houses and Romanesque fortress church.
A gentle stage with continuous ups and downs through grey stone villages. You cross the Ligonde pass with splendid views over the Galician plateau. The hospitality of Galicia's inland villages will surprise you. You arrive at Palas de Rei, the hub of this stage with a great pilgrim atmosphere.
One of the most varied stages. You cross the Pambre River and its medieval castle, pass through Melide — famous for its octopus — and arrive at Arzúa, known for its Galician tetilla cheese. Here the pilgrim atmosphere intensifies as the Portuguese Way joins.
The penultimate stage. You walk through dense eucalyptus and pine forests creating an almost magical atmosphere. You pass through sleeping villages where roosters wake you at dawn. In O Pedrouzo the anticipation is at its peak: tomorrow you reach Santiago. The excitement is palpable in every conversation at the hostel.
The most special day. You cross Monte do Gozo — the "Mount of Joy" — where you see the Cathedral towers for the first time. You enter Santiago through the UNESCO World Heritage historic centre. The Plaza del Obradoiro awaits with the embrace of the Apostle and the Pilgrim Mass. A moment you will never forget.
💡 6-stage option: We can split the Palas de Rei → Arzúa stage into two days for a more relaxed pace. Ideal for families with children or those with less fitness.
