The Camino de Santiago from Sarria is the most popular option for those who want to earn the Compostela in a short time. The short answer: the usual is to do it in 5 or 6 days. But it depends on your pace, your fitness level and how you want to experience the journey. If you're also preparing for the trip, it's worth checking our guide on what to pack in your Camino de Santiago backpack so you don't overload yourself.

How many kilometres is it from Sarria to Santiago?

From Sarria to Santiago it is just over 100 kilometres — exactly between 115 and 118 km depending on the variant chosen. This distance is the minimum required by the Cathedral of Santiago to award the official Compostela, which is precisely why Sarria became the most popular starting point on the Camino.

📌 Important To receive the Compostela you must walk the minimum 100 km on foot, stamp your pilgrim passport at least twice per stage and present it at the Pilgrim Office upon arriving in Santiago.

💡 Our recommendation If this is your first Camino or you're not used to walking several days in a row, choose the 6-day option. You'll arrive in Santiago with energy left to enjoy the city.

Can it be done in fewer than 5 days?

Technically yes, but we don't recommend it. Doing it in 4 days means stages of more than 28 km per day, which can cause blisters, injuries and a level of fatigue that ruins the experience. The Camino is not a race: it's worth taking the time to enjoy it.

What about more than 6 days?

Of course. Many pilgrims add an extra night in a charming village, such as Melide (famous for its octopus) or Arzúa. It's also possible to add an initial stage in Lugo if you want to start the Camino from there. Tell us your preferences and we'll adapt the itinerary.
